【シリーズ4/4】「未完成」な心に、そっと手を置く。——身体で物語を完結させる

Eyecatch

Up until now, we have introduced practices designed to switch off the brain and sharpen the body's sensors.

In this final installment, we will delve into the process most cherished by Unfolding Bodywork: directly touching and completing the sensations that arise within you.

The "Moy moya" That Cannot Be Articulated: An Unfinished Story

When we feel worries or anxieties, we often instinctively search for their cause, asking, "Why do I feel this way?" However, the body's sensations (felt sense) do not always demand a logical explanation.

They are, so to speak, "unfinished stories that have not yet found their conclusion."

While the Focusing method articulates these sensations into words, which is a significant step, Unfolding Bodywork goes even further. Instead of ending solely in the "brain's domain" of words, we directly place our "hand" upon that very spot.

Practice: Meeting Unfinished Sensations with Your "Hand"

Shaping the Felt Sense

Close your eyes and find a "noteworthy sensation" somewhere in your body right now. It might be "a hardened stone-like feeling deep in the chest" or "a cold, watery bubble-like sensation in the abdomen." Gently visualize its shape and texture.

Touching Directly, Without Thought

Explore with your inner sensor where this sensation corresponds on the surface of your body. Once you find it, gently place your own hand there.

At this moment, absolutely do not think, "I must melt this lump," or "I must fix this."

The "Hand": The Final Piece of the Puzzle

Simply place your hand on that texture, as if you've found a lost child, acknowledging, "Oh, you were here."

If the sensation is like a "stone," receive its weight with your palm. If it's like a "bubble," gently envelop its fragility with your hand.

Waiting for the Body to Speak on Its Own

If you wait quietly in this manner, something mysterious will occur.

Within the reassuring embrace of your touch, that sensation (story) will begin to transform, dissolve, and unfold on its own. Even without the brain attempting to "solve" it, the body will naturally move towards "completion."

Embracing "Not Knowing": A Path to Integration

Our brain labels the unknown as "anxiety" and attempts to compartmentalize and control it.

However, the body possesses the capacity to fully embrace "not knowing" as it is.

To touch directly.

That is the moment when fragmented "thought (brain)" and "felt experience (body)" meet in one place. It is then, for the first time, that we arrive at a profound sense of peace: "I was whole, just as I am."

The exhaustion from endless analysis is over.

The answer is not found in external academia or science, but already resides within the "contact point" where your palm meets your body.

Into the World of Unfolding Bodywork

The practices we have shared over these four installments are merely an entryway for you to reclaim your "wholeness."

The Body's Richness, Beyond the Brain's Comprehension.

Within it lies "your own story," one you have yet to discover.

If you feel a desire to deepen your body's sensors, or to support someone else's "unfinished story," we invite you to open the door to Unfolding Bodywork.

When you release the urge "to understand," your true life will begin to quietly unfold.
