「呼吸の浅さ」は、あなたが“外向きすぎ”のサインかも? 内側へ向かう時間の大切さ

Eyecatch
In our daily endeavors, striving constantly in work, household chores, and social engagements, we perpetually direct our energy "outward, ever outward." Amidst this relentless flow, do you ever pause and suddenly perceive a sense of breathlessness, a feeling that your breath is shallow?

If this resonates with you, it may well be your body whispering a profound message.

Does Comfort Become "Just Normal"? The Enigma of Sensation Discovered Through My Meditation Practice

Since February of this year, I have consistently practiced one hour of meditation daily for over 100 days. My intention was to deeply explore the breath and the profound effects of meditation. Initially, I felt a fresh wave of changes, but as it became a habit, I noticed that the benefits seemed less perceptible.

The human senses are truly enigmatic: while comfort tends to normalize and become "a given", uncomfortable sensations often persist with greater intensity. As the mind and body grow progressively more serene through meditation, it paradoxically becomes challenging to "perceive" its blessings.

Consequently, I decided to "pause" my meditation practice for about two weeks. During this period, I consciously increased the time I directed my energy "outward, ever outward," engaging in activities like website updates and live painting.

And what do you think happened next?

Day by day, I noticed my breathing becoming more laborious. Even when I focused on my breath, it inexplicably failed to improve. I found myself plagued by a sensation, as if emerging from deep within my body, that my "breath struggled to flow freely."

A Mere Five Minutes of Meditation Liberated My Breath Instantly One Morning

Then, one morning, I resolved to try meditating again, if only for five minutes. To my astonishment, my breath suddenly flowed deeply and effortlessly. The sensation of that breathlessness dissolving in mere minutes was truly profound.

At that moment, I recalled an insight from a "Movement Medicine" conscious dance workshop I had attended previously. In that workshop, participants alternated between dancing with concentrated focus inward and dancing with expansive expression outward.

I observed that continuously dancing with outward expression gradually depleted my energy. However, when I shifted to dancing with inward concentration, I physically felt my energy mysteriously replenish itself.

Both Breath and Energy Pulsate

This experience felt entirely analogous to breathing. Much like the pulsation of a heart, we may need to alternate between "periods of outward focus" and "periods of inward reflection." Constantly directing energy outward places a significant burden on both the body and the mind.

If you are currently experiencing sensations of "shallow breath," "difficulty inhaling," or "difficulty exhaling," it might just be a profound signal that you are "over-extending your energy outward."

In such moments, consciously pausing and dedicating time to turn your awareness inward can be profoundly effective.

  • Integrate brief meditation: Even just five minutes can bring profound shifts to your breath and mind.
  • Experience an Unfolding Bodywork session: Through subtle touch, we release deep-seated tensions within the body, offering a profound space to turn your awareness inward. This can be the catalyst for you to awaken to the unspoken whispers of your body, which you may have been "pretending not to feel," and reclaim your innate capacity for deep, restorative breath.

In our perpetually outward-focused modern society, cultivating time to direct your awareness inward. This will undoubtedly be a crucial step towards awakening your body's innate "power of breath" and replenishing your entire being with rich, vibrant energy.
