Previously, we discussed the overall picture of the "Five Elements," the compass connecting mind and body.
As the first step on this magnificent journey, let us now delve deeply into "Void (Ku)," the most fundamental element that encompasses all others.
The Void is the Space of All Beginnings, a State Where Everything Exists
Simply put, the element of "Void" refers to "space."
When we hear "Void," we might imagine emptiness, a nothingness. However, the most crucial role of this element is to create "the place for other elements to exist."
- Organs can exist within the body because there are cavities (spaces) inside.
- We can conduct Unfolding Bodywork sessions because there is a physical space for the session.
- And you can exist here because of the magnificent "Void" of the universe.
All existence cannot be without the "Void."
Furthermore, the Void is not merely "space"; it is also a state of potential where "everything exists." It is filled with countless information and energy yet to take form.
Unfolding Bodywork and the Element of Void
In Unfolding Bodywork sessions, the concept of the "Void" element is what we value most deeply.
We pay meticulous attention to ensuring that a safe and secure space (Void) expands within the client's body. This involves not just touching the body, but also delicately considering the practitioner's body position and the placement of their awareness.
We trust that the client's inner strength will unfold naturally. Therefore, we avoid forced interventions and instead dedicate ourselves to simply creating that space.
- Have you ever felt a lump in your throat, feeling unable to "say what you want to say"? This is a sign that there isn't enough "Void" for emotional expression. Similarly, the unspoken rule of "not crying in public" can be seen as a state where the "Void" for emotional expression is not permitted.
- Stiffness in joint movement or symptoms of difficulty moving the body can also be seen as signs that there isn't enough "Void" within the body. This is because we can move precisely because there is "Void" (space) in our joints.
- A tendency to "overthink and be unable to act" is also a state where the space within the head has narrowed.
Also, "craving carbonated drinks" might be a message from the body feeling constricted, signaling a lack of the Void element. If you feel this sense of constriction, it can be interpreted as an important message from your body, indicating that the direction you are currently heading might not be the right one for you.
In terms of the chakra concept, the "Void" element corresponds to the Fifth Chakra (Throat). Foods corresponding to this element are blue-colored foods, and arts include music, singing, and poetry. All of these are connected to the act of expressing oneself and creating space.
Experience the Void Through a Session
The "Void" is the element that offers the possibility of all beginnings to our body and mind.
If you are currently experiencing physical discomfort or a feeling of constriction in your heart, it might be a sign that the "Void" within you is seeking to expand.
As the Void expands, self-esteem can increase, concerns about others' opinions can fade, self-expression can improve, and symptoms manifested in the throat or joints can alleviate.
If you are feeling any sense of constriction, why not come and experience the "Void" – where your space can safely expand – in an Unfolding Bodywork session?
Next time, we will further explore the "Wind" element.
