Prior to my journey as a bodyworker, I dedicated myself to the realm of advertising and public relations. My days were a continuous engagement with a computer screen in the office, my mind tirelessly active while my body remained largely still. The defining trait of this profession was the incessant projection of my consciousness towards the 'future.' This wasn't merely about anticipating today or tomorrow, but extending foresight to a week, a month, half a year, a year, and even three years ahead.
Inevitably, plans would shift with relentless pace. Each alteration would ignite a cascade of 'what if' anxieties, prompting me to meticulously redraw the blueprints of the future within my mind, time and again. Through years of this repetition, I honed a particular acumen: I would anticipate the ever-changing nature of plans, peering beyond the immediate future I had prepared, or meticulously crafting multiple divergent future scenarios to mitigate the apprehension of unforeseen adjustments.
Furthermore, my attention was never directed towards a solitary concern. For a multitude of projects and tasks, distinct futures had to be meticulously charted. And the profound commonality among all these endeavors was that they rarely unfolded precisely as initially envisioned.
This continuous cycle, perhaps, defines a state of perpetually harboring anxieties about 'what has yet to transpire.' To ceaselessly dwell on the future is, undeniably, profoundly draining.
The Exhaustion of a Body Tethered to Future-Focused Awareness
To anticipate and strategize for the future is, without doubt, a remarkable human capacity. Yet, our physical being is perpetually rooted in the 'here and now.' It resides neither in the future nor the past; it exists, unequivocally, in this very instant.
When the body remains anchored in 'this present moment,' yet consciousness alone drifts towards the 'future,' it creates a profound disjunction—a state where mind and body are, in essence, profoundly disconnected.
Furthermore, the more adept one becomes at directing awareness toward the 'future,' the more challenging it appears to truly inhabit the 'here and now.' This phenomenon, I believe, extends beyond the realms of advertising and public relations, permeating many facets of contemporary work and human interactions.
While it is frequently observed that 'modern individuals are perpetually fatigued,' this profound 'disparity between consciousness and body' may indeed be a significant contributing factor.
Unfolding Bodywork: Guiding You to the 'Here and Now' Sensation
Through the transformative sessions at Unfolding Bodywork, my endeavor is to gently guide you towards directing your awareness inward, to the sensations of your body in the 'here and now.' While numerous pathways exist to cultivate presence, I find that simply tuning into 'how does my body feel at this very moment?' is the most intuitive and universally accessible starting point.
The body, in its inherent wisdom, holds no concern for the anxieties of the future or the echoes of the past. It perpetually reveals the truth of this very instant. By attuning our awareness to these bodily sensations, we can gently draw our consciousness back to our authentic self in the 'here and now,' thereby re-establishing the profound connection between mind and body.
In doing so, we become liberated from the unnecessary burdens of future anxieties, enabling us to concentrate fully on the present reality and make choices that are truly essential. As the body becomes deeply rooted in the 'here and now,' it fosters profound rest and rejuvenation for both mind and spirit, ultimately paving the way for healing the pervasive fatigue of contemporary life.
Where does your consciousness reside in this moment? If you yearn to be emancipated from the burdens of 'future' worries, to reconnect with the rich, vibrant sensations of your body in the 'here and now,' and to reclaim profound mind-body harmony, we warmly invite you to experience Unfolding Bodywork.
